Dear G.K. Allum,

I wanted to express how deeply I admire your work, especially your post, A Serenade to the Ghost. It touched a part of me that still lingers, a feeling that would have resonated with me even ten years ago. Your words have a haunting beauty, and I still feel the presence of what you described, as if it’s quietly lingering, both poignant and profound.

There’s something about the way you capture the essence of such deep emotions—it’s powerful and evocative. Thank you for sharing your light with the world. It truly moves me.

Warmly, Heather

What can one say to that? I have no words that would express how much that means and my gratitude. How did you discover this piece?

I opened my Substack page, and there was your post. Accidental? I think not. It’s magic! Your words seemed to appear exactly when I needed them, and I can’t help but feel a sense of serendipity in it all. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful and profound piece—it truly speaks to my heart.

Admire your work. I also really like the pictures that you choose to put it in the right frame and give it the right mood. Where do you get them from?

I’m curious

A vulnerable account of the myriad of emotions we get to experience when we take on the beauty of loves entirety. The soul and the body at odds until they make peace. Your images as companion to this piece sets the tone of the movie that played out in my head. Thank you.

I must say, poetry has never been my go-to, but this is quite exquisite. How memory becomes both wound and comfort. Your words caught me and where I'd started to skim, I found myself scrolling back up and reading again. Loved it. Especially that ending that reminds us that even when we're shattered, we're still breathing, still feeling, still beginning again. This is beautifully, hauntingly human. A fantastic piece of work.

Wow, what haunting beauty and profound emotion! This epic journey through love, loss and the lasting presence of memories is painted with such vivid imagery that each stanza captures both the pain and beauty of it all. I love how you explore the spaces in-between each movement, no wonder it won the Special Prize, as it's a testament to the power of poetry. Bravo!
