These great tides
pull me under
through the barley mow
folding the furrows of time
and I wonder
is she an ambassador
ploughing me into
the underworld.
Beneath the weight
of teenage years
I’m ill-equipped to teach
her the ways of men,
or simply translate
the shifting language of the sea.
