Wow. 6,000 subscribers in a year is crazy. Well I guess considering I’m at 66 and almost at a year. πŸ˜‚ Still worth sharing my poetry again even if I don’t have a lot of people reading. Thank you for sharing poetry with the world.

I recently discovered your work through your newly launched Ink & Ribbon Press and I feel so at home. Fabulous work on this piece, I can see why you'd want to share and revisit it. I recently did the same with a series of poems and poetic prose I published a year ago at the start of my substack journey. It's nice to see the resonance in other creators doing the same πŸ™πŸΌ

The repetitious movement of this truly does earn the last verse of conclusion.

I feel like reading such carefully structured poetry offers me a lot of knowledge and insight about form. Thank you!

I don't think I would have lasted long, drinking with Bukowski.

Fine poem though...

Best Wishes - Dave :)

PS 6,000 subscribers in a year seems an astonishing achievement. Congratulations! :)

We had someone do a talk on Bukowski at Mexborough Read To Write. I was only familiar with the name via a β€˜Piano Bar’, whatever that is, having been it was an old shop changed over to drinking and open mic sessions, not a grand, upright, Casio or keyboard in sight. I’ve only been into poetry a few years btw. Bukowski’s commentary seemed bright and witty, maybe it was the reader’s choice, but it rapidly descended into profanity. I’m not faintly prudish, possibly thick, but this is why I find some beat poets (I’m catching up on 20thC) utterly toothless and banal. Your Bukowskiesque poem is deep in the vein. He could have written it. But then he’d have spoilt itπŸ˜ΉπŸ‘. In other matters, well done re the community. There are so many in the world today. Yet although the occasional magazine appeared when I was young, growing up into poetry was like growing up gay. You’d get a kicking for it. If you wrote any you hid it. Still, this is South Yorkshire. The Beats were in California and I so wanted to take up the suggestion of The Flower Pot Men (the band not the puppets)

That's the beauty of poetry, one person can pick up a poem and fall in love with the poet - and someone else not so much. For example, the revered Frank O'Hara doesn't resonate with me but Bukowksi, whenever I read his work I know I can...no, I must write. He is an inspiration and amidst some of the gutter like trash, his story is one of perseverance and commitment to writing everyday and finding success when least expected.
