The empathy is from my son

Yes. In the simple mystery of what happens journeying from the mountains to the sea we can find our humanity isn't diminished with fewer years. Very compelling and encouraging. Thank you for this intimate sharing.

Love this poem in a poem. Your son’s poem brought me peace!

It’s his actual poem, I’ve spent years trying to write something as simple.

To fully inhabit and express that moment in such clear resonant imagesβ€”what a poet voice (without trying). Children have deep inner lives that adults need to recognize and nurture, as you clearly have done!

This made me smile. I can feel your joy and pride. I've had similar moments witnessing the profoundness of my 8-year old son, and 5-year old daughter. It's exciting!

Great piece, yours and your (I’m assuming fictional) son’s. I’ve heard kids these days aren’t taught cursive writing. The cursive here is a nice detail.
